Here's some information about achariyar :

Jagadhaacharyan Sri Ramanujar established vishishta-advaitha sampradayam with the help of Azhwar's Arulicheyal and Vedhas. To propogate this parama vaithiga matham, swami ramanjar had appointed 74 dearest disciplies as simmaasanaathipathis or acharya purushas and entrusted the right of performing initiation process which is popularly known as panchasamskaaram or Samaasrayenam. Thus the mercy of Sriyappathi Sarweswaran reaches all the chethanas through these seventy four channels.

Out of these 74 Acharya Purushas, Sri Komandur Illayavilli Achan Swami (Baaladhanvi Aachaan) - the maternal cousin of swami ramanujar was also appointed as 72nd Simmaasanaathipathi. As Sri Illayavilliyaachaan swami performed kaingaryam at the lotus feet of sri ramanuja as Lakshmana did kaingaryam to Sri Raman, Swami Ramanujar named swami as Ilayavilli Aachan in appreciation of his kaingaryam.
